Commitment #4: I will stock my home for heath

What's in our pantry and fridge will ultimately decide how healthy we are. We can stock and organize our kitchen to create either health or sickness. Let's open the cupboards and fridge, see what we have, and then do this...

• Toss out anything with trans fats, high-fructose corn syrup (HFCS), or sugar as one of the top ingredients. Check salad dressings, spreads, peanut butter, and condiments for HFCS and added unhealthy fats. Replace them with better, more natural choices.

• Place treats and snacks out of view. Fill your cookie jar with dried fruit or whole grain pasta.

• Trade fruit juices and sodas for water and sparkling water. Fill your refrigerator and enjoy them throughout the day.

• Toss the temptations: chips, chocolate, crackers, cookies, ice cream, trail mix, kettle corn, candy, and packaged snacks.

• Shop smart for healthy snacks. At each shopping trip, let's look for delicious and healthy pantry-stuffers that we'll be happy to eat instead of the things we just threw away. Scour the Internet and grocery aisles for truly healthy snacks. Have a list in mind so whenever you shop you never run out of ideas. You may have to look for them at first, but soon you'll know right where to go to pick snack foods that make you feel great.

Many ideas for this and the other articles in this series were gathered from suggestions by Kathy Smith, a well-known fitness icon who has led the charge for exercising, losing weight, and eating healthy for over 30 years.

"Little to lose and everything to gain!"

I really didn't have a lot of weight to lose. I play handball every day and drop between 3 and 7 lbs. on the court every day. At 62, I am very proud of that. I owe most of it to good nutrition through juicing and supplementation. I have been designing diets for over 30 years. CORE4™ changed my life. I didn't have to eat like a rabbit and my puffed stomach was gone dropping an inch and a half off my waist in 4 days . I was able to quit my 2 full-time jobs and trade in the dress shirt and tie for flip flops and Tommy Bahamas shirts. I call it pajama marketing. A cell phone, a laptop, a hammock, and a good signal. Mix that in with honesty and birds of a feather and you have an enormous family. Thanks to my Xyngular® family including customer Care—you are the backbone! I cannot thank you all enough. You have rewarded me beyond most people's wildest dreams.

3 ways to tell when you're using "sales talk" and turning people off

Most Xyngular® leaders have to admit that at some point they have lost a sale or two or have missed out on recruiting someone because they talked too much or because they said the wrong thing. It's easy to do. Here's how to tell when you're drifting into "sales talk."

If that has ever happened to you, here's some advice from one of the world's largest ad agencies, Young & Rubicam (Y&R). Chairman Ann Fudge, whose clients include Ford Motor, Sears, AT&T and other giants, said: "You always have to put yourself in the shoes of the consumer. It's not what we think, it's what the consumer thinks."

So how do you put yourself in the consumer's shoes when you happen to be the seller?

It's not as easy as it seems. Ask yourself, "can you recognize a slight change in language or mood when a friend starts talking sales? Do you tend to move toward or away from them?

That's right. When someone starts talking like a seller, most of us stop listening. Why? Because they all tend to talk the same way.

Seller talk is a little like baby talk...it's easy to recognize. You know how it sounds..."So, Lucy, what do you do?" She gushes: "I'm a distributor for nutritional products. We market unique, proven weight loss products that are amazing and all-natural."

What do you want to do when you hear talk like that?...Turn and run. Others want to do that when you start your seller talk. Their eyes glaze over and they start thinking of ways to politely get away. "That's great," they say. "What are you having for lunch?"

Here are 3 signs of seller talk. Do you recognize them?

1. General statements that speak to no specific person.
For example, "I have weight loss products." Or "I sell nutritionals." Generalities trigger thought's like "that's nice" or "who cares?" They leave no impression, they don't get anyone's attention, so no one buys.

2. Jargon or industry "shop-talk" is like a foreign language to most of us, even if we understand the words. Would you ever go into a retail store and say, "I want an all-natural, scientifically proven weight-loss nutritional please"?
Names of some diseases are jargon but symptoms of diseases usually aren't.
For example, many people may not know what hypoglycemia or metabolic syndrome is or feels like. They might identify, though, with constant cravings or being too tired to get out of bed. Describing symptoms in common language opens peoples' minds to what you have for them. Talking about a specific disease usually doesn't.

3. Hype is overblown claims that sound inflated or excessive. Hardly anyone believes in using hype, but many Distributors don't know that they're using it.
What if you feel "you got your life back after using Xyngular products." You hear it all the time in written testimonials. But in a conversation it comes across like hype.

You can say whatever you want in a conversation, and it won't be thought of as hype if you're not making money promoting it. It's like telling someone about a restaurant you don't own. However, the minute you go into business selling something that helped you lose so much weight, what you said before comes across as hype.

Think how you react to someone who's bubbling over about something and later you discover they're selling it... How do you feel? Do you feel used or manipulated? Do you feel like they don't really care about you? They just wanted to sell you their product.

If you're not up front about marketing a product, and they finally find out later, everything you said about how wonderful it is will suddenly be questionable. Even if everything you said was absolutely true, what you said is suddenly suspect.

ACTION STEPS:
1. Think through the words and phrases you use when you talk about Xyngular products. Write them down and weed out words and phrases that tend toward, hype, jargon, or generalities. Practice them.

2. Ask successful leaders to share how they talk casually with friends about the Xyngular products and opportunity. Make note of the easy, casual, non-threatening way they find out about their friend and introduce the product. Notice how they take the pressure off with phrases like "you may or may not be interested." Pay attention to how they ask questions, like, "if this could really help you manage your cravings, would you be willing to try it for a day or two?"

The Right Fuel

Think of your body an expensive, high performance vehicle, like a race car or a space shuttle that must last you 100 years. Your food is the fuel that is either used for increased energy and health, or in the case of junk food, is deposited as fat and toxic sludge.

If you use your vehicle without proper fuel, you'll be exhausted all the time, no matter how much food you eat. Your body doesn't have to fall apart too quickly. Like a vehicle, it's easy to take for granted because it gets you where you want to go, until it starts breaking down. Then it starts to disrupt your life.

Like your car, little things are easy to overlook—a rattle in the transmission, a little black smoke out the tail pipe. Your body will send you signals too—a little depression or aggression, regular headaches, acid reflux, high blood pressure, too frequent colds, etc.

It's amazing how many people talk about these problems going away when they're using Xyngular® products regularly.
Much like your car, your body only speaks to you when there's a problem. You only notice it when something starts to malfunction. But, unlike your car, you can't find spare parts very easily.

Your car must be taken out and used often at fairly high speeds to keep it running at its best. An occasional trip to the grocery store won't do it. You need exercise.

It seems like a contradiction, but the more energy you use for exercise, the more energy you will have—assuming that you are using high quality fuel. The right exercise means weight-bearing exercise as well as aerobics and safe stretching.

For optimal fuel all you need to do is look at the standards Jim Ayres has set for your Xyngular shopping list.

ACTION STEPS:
1. Shop for high fiber carbs as close to nature as possible—minimal processing, no synthetics, and plant-based. Look for organic, pesticide-free produce that spoils naturally if you don't use them within a reasonable amount of time. This shows that healthy enzymes are at work.

2. Select healthy fats from nuts, seeds, and grains rather than from fatty or processed meats, added processed oils, deep-fat-fried foods, dairy fats, or bakery fats.

3. Choose lean proteins. Plant-based proteins...legumes and grains. Look for low-fat fish, free-range poultry, grass-fed red meats, organic eggs, and organic dairy products. Avoid fatty processed meats like sausage and salami.

4. Shop for high fiber. Try for 25 to 40 grams of fiber a day. It's easy with whole grains, legumes, and raw fruits and vegetables. Avoid empty, sugary drinks and foods made from highly processed grains and potatoes.

5. Shop for variety. Enjoy a wide variety of colorful ingredients from nature in every meal.

6. Make low sodium choices. Keep within the recommended guidelines.

7. Take supplements with a healthy diet. As you're taking Xyngular's supplements, make sure they're not replacing healthy foods, but rather supplementing them.

Use the 90-Day Body Transformation Challenge to reinforce your team's retention culture

Attrition costs way too much. How much time does it take to make an occasional phone call with no agenda but to reach out to someone you recruited a few months ago who hasn't ordered in awhile? A simple invitation to join in your 90-Day Body Transformation Challenge can pay off in a major way in improving your team retention.

Once you've built a team, how do you spend your important phone time? If you were to spend an hour working on prospecting or an hour working on retention, which would be the most productive use of your time? Retention is an extremely efficient use of your time. And the 90-Day Challenge gives you an excellent opportunity to get everyone in your team in the habit of thinking constantly about retention.

In most companies only 20% of the people who are excited about being recruited today will still be active a year from now. While Xyngular®'s retention statistics are much better than the abysmal industry average, we can all do better at keeping our people excited and active. All we need to do is schedule a little time for retention calls, exciting texts, messages on email, or posts on Facebook. They really pay off.

People fall out of activity for 5 basic reasons: (1) poor communications, (2) lack of training, (3) unmet expectations, (4) poor service by the company and the upline, and (5) life changes. Of all these reasons for leaving, only 15% leave because of life changes beyond our control. The other 85% are very much in the control of the company and the upline.
Statistically as many as half of the people who drop out do so in the first 90 days. That's exactly the length of the 90-Day Body Transformation. If we can simply stay in touch better during the first quarter of the year and every 90-day period thereafter, we'll be in the habit of supporting each other better, managing expectations, and identifying all the different ways we can retain those we recruit.

The 90-Day Challenge gives us the opportunity to do something really special for every person who joins the team. You'll want to plan 3-way calls, special team conference calls, shout-out text messages, and fun celebrations during that first 90 days. You'll also want to plan "calling trees" by team members checking in on each other to see how the weight loss is going and answering any questions.

What would happen if everyone on your team received several calls like the following in their first week or two in the business? "Hey, I just wanted to call and say we're glad you're on our team and offer help with anything that may come up as you lose weight or build your business." Industry studies show that just one extra call like that within the first 72 hours can translate into 40% who would have dropped out who actually stay. Is a simple call worth the effort? You bet.
Even an answering machine voice mail message works. A simple reminder call to get on the conference calls means a huge increase in retention. These important calls don't have to bring more money into the pipeline every time. Just calling for no particular reason but to show you care improves retention tremendously.

How often can you communicate without annoying your team members? Once they're trained, a weekly call is a great rule of thumb.

Another important part of retention is managing expectations. Speak the truth about what to expect in weight loss and business growth over time. Tell them straight exactly what they need to do to get consistent results. You build trust and strong belief with honest advice.

ACTION STEPS:
1. Get out your planner and schedule time every day for a few retention calls. Make them fun, exciting, and brief. Schedule them with every member of your team on a regular basis, hopefully weekly.

2. Keep track of retention in your team. Measure it just as you would recruiting or your commission checks. It will pay off.

3. Force yourself to make a list of 25 creative ways you and your team are going to use the 90-Day Body Transformation Challenge to make retention a consistent team habit.

90-Day Body Transformation Challenge Commitment #3: I will shop smart

We all have healthy food choices at convenient, local markets...fruits, vegetables, low-fat dairy, lean meats, legumes, nuts, and seeds. With Jim Ayres shopping list and meal plans, it's easy to plan ahead and make it to the checkout stand without empty impulse items full of unhealthy fat, sugar, starch, and salt. Here's how to navigate the store.

Shop the perimeter. Most markets layouts have meats, produce, and dairy around the edges of the store. Most processed, empty foods are located in the center and next the checkout. You're looking for foods that are nearest to the way they looked when they came out of the ground. The whole grains are about the only thing you need to look for in the center parts of the store.

Stay loyal to the same store(s). Once you're familiar with the layout, you'll shop more quickly and avoid temptations more easily.

Make a list. Use Jim's suggested list, then avoid picking up items not on your list. If you have impulse items around the house and you ever miss a snack or a meal, your cravings will kick in. And those foodless foods will jump out at you. If you're buying treats for other family members, store them out of sight.

Avoid shopping when you're hungry. You know what happens. Everything not on your list looks extra tempting...especially the empty, sugary, salty, fatty things. Advertisers and marketers have programmed us to go straight to the treats whenever our body chemicals signal hunger.

Check the labels. Don't be fooled by label that says "fat-free," "lite," or "low-fat." When you check ingredients, you'll see unpronounceable ingredients that can sabotage the shopper who doesn't check. If some form of sugar is one of the first two ingredients, that's a clue that it's unhealthy.

In addition to ingredients, check Nutrition Facts for percentage of calories from fat (you want it low), trans fat (you don't want any), protein and carbs (you want them as close to each other as possible in a meal or snack), sodium (you want it to be a small percentage of the suggested daily value), and fiber (you want it high...between 25 and 40g/day).
You only have to check the labels once to identify the healthiest brand. It will set you up for quicker shopping from then on. Check the labels of foods you have at home and decide which ones to switch for a more healthy choice.

Enjoy both fresh and frozen. Buy fresh in season as much as you can. Frozen fruits and vegetables are frozen at peak harvest time so their nutritional value could actually be better than fresh produce that has been in shipping and warehouses for awhile.

Get to know your butcher. Ask for what's fresh that day. A fresh cut will taste better with less seasoning (sodium).
